Can you believe that it is April already?!  This year is flying by!

Do you have any pieces in your closet that were so cute in the store, but you just can't figure out how to wear them?  This skirt is one of those pieces for me.  I fell in love with it last fall, but it sits in my closet taunting me as I can't figure out what to pair it with.  My chambray shirt came to the rescue this time, but I know there are so many other cute ways to style this shirt.  I just can't figure them out!

So I'm turning it over to you guys.  How would you style this skirt?

I hope you had a great weekend!  Mine was fairly low key after being in NYC last week.  I never sleep as well away from home as I do in my own bed so I was overdue for a catch up.

As we transition into spring, I'm beginning to think about the pieces that will be staples in my closet moving forward and what I want need.  When I had this white blazer made last year (for under $100 - I have to figure out how to get back to Vietnam!), I didn't realize what a staple in my closet it would become.  I find myself reaching for it so often that I hate parting with it to even send it to the dry cleaner.  (Of course I send it, lol!)  If you don't have one, I highly recommend picking one up for spring or a sleeveless vest (like this one), which is a great alternative.

I'm normally a pants/jeans girl, but sometimes a dress just speaks to you.  I found this dress at the end of season sale at Neimans for an amazing price and am finally breaking out now that spring is here.  The color is so rich and the scuba-like materials is very flattering.  This is my first Rebecca Taylor dress, but probably not my last, especially if I can find another one for such a great price!

I hope your week is going well!

I picked up this skirt during the last Piperlime sale and can't rave about it enough (especially as it is under $30 right now).  I was a little nervous about the midi trend as I'm pretty short (5'2 and hence my collection of heels). However, I've found a few ways to make it work for me.  I had the skirt hemmed to hit right below the knee (my definition of a midi skirt), and am wearing nude heels to elongate my (short) legs.  I also kept my look monochromatic on top.   By doing these three things, I found that the midi skirt is actually quite flattering and I might pick up a few more (especially if I find them under $30!).

Have you embraced the midi skirt trend?

I hope your week is going well!  I wore this (or at least a version of this) on Sunday to run errands and style a client for an upcoming wedding.  I was hoping to get one more wear out of these boots before it became too warm, but I was melting in them!  I had to switch into flats (seen here on Instagram).  After all of my complaining about the cold weather, I'm definitely going to embrace the heat wave.  Bring it on!

I hope you had a good weekend!  I love political dramas so I spent most of it watching House of Cards.  I only have 2 episodes left and can't wait to see how the season finishes. No spoilers please!

While my style can change depending on my mood, I often find myself coming back to outfits that are easy, yet polished.  For me, one of the easiest ways to achieve this look is to wear several pieces in the same color so I don't have to worry about matching several different colors (see here, here, here).  A little texture, like the leather patches on the jacket, can prevent monochromatic looks from being boring.  All black is always a safe classic choice and I love the edge the boyfriend jeans give the outfit (It's about as edgy as I get, lol).

What are some of your go to tricks for an easy, polished look?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Sometimes all you need is a statement piece to elevate your basics.  A grey sweater and boyfriend jeans has the potential to be a little too simple, but this necklace (and red lipstick) elevates them to anything but boring.  I've had my eye on this necklace for several weeks and finally decided to treat myself for my birthday at the end of January.  It is heavy but I love it.  Sometimes you have to #treatyoself!
